And as if that were not enough, there are also dotted and streaked lilies. Even the shape of the flower varies: trumpet-shaped, flat star-shaped, calyx-shaped.

The smaller lilies with a diameter of only 7 centimeters give the garden a pretty and delicate look, while those with a diameter of 25 centimeters create a fascinating exotic effect.

Although many people find it pleasant, inside the house, the intense scent of some varieties of lilies can be cloying and all too intrusive.

Fortunately, this problem does not arise in the garden, as the lily’s fragrance does not remain trapped in an enclosed environment, but blends with the other scents of nature.

Hybrid speciosum lilies, for example, give off a delicious vanilla aroma. If you prefer not to smell any flower in the garden, you can opt for the Asian lily. The fragrance of this variety provided it is perceptible, is extremely delicate.

Fortunately, planting lily bulbs is a simple operation. If the roots are already visible, the bulbs can be planted at a depth of 20-25 cm. Lily bulbs that are still rootless should be planted between 10 and 15 cm deep.

There is one particular variety that requires special care: the white Madonna Lily (Lilium candidum). The upper end of Madonna’s lily bulb must be just below the surface of the ground so that it can feel the sun’s heat.

The ideal distance between one bulb and the other is between 20 and 40 centimeters. These beautiful flowers combine perfectly with low, large-leaved plants as they prefer to keep their feet in the shade and their heads in the sun.
