Boats are a means of water transportation. Sailboats are boats powered by the force of the wind. Several parts are common to most boats. The hull is the body or structure of the boat. The walls are called bulkheads. The deck is the floor of the boat.

The keel and rudder are on the underside of the boat. The keel runs the entire length of the boat, at the deepest and central part of the hull. It has the vital function of preventing the boat from tipping over to the sides. The rudder is attached to the back of the hull and is used to determine the direction of navigation.

There are many different types of boats, but almost all have the same necessary parts. The sectors of the boat also have specific names. The front is the bow, and the back is the stern. The left side of a boat is known as the port side; the right side is the starboard side (or starboard).

There are boats of many different sizes and types, but they can be grouped into three main categories based on the kind of energy used to move them into the water.

The kayak is a type of boat that moved with the help of a two paddle. Many boats are driven by human effort. They float with the help of the oar, a wooden or metal rod with a shovel at the end. Among these types of boats are the canoe and the kayak, small, light, and pointed boats.

The canoe operator uses a paddle, while the kayak driver uses a paddle with two oars, one at each end, to paddle more easily from both sides. Another type of boat powered by human strength is the so-called rowing boat, which is broader and more massive than the canoe or kayak. To move it, people use longer paddles.

The wind drives other boats. These are sailboats, boats with sails (large pieces of cloth) mounted on columns called masts. The sails ignite with the wind, which pushes the sailboat forward. There are sailboats of various sizes, from small, for one person, to huge boats, capable of making ocean crossings.

The motorboat, as its name indicates, is moved by an engine, which can be of center or stern. The internal motor is attached inside the hull of the boat while the stern engine is attached to the outside of the hull and can be easily removed.

Both types of engines frequently move the boat with the help of a propeller that rotates in the water. The best-known motorboats are the boat and the speedboat. The boat is a small boat generally used as an auxiliary to a larger boat.

It has the function of sailing small stretches, usually in places where the boat has a gigantic atoll. The motorboat is more significant and faster than the boat, being able to navigate more significant times.
